Assessment of First Aid Knowledge among Students of Nursing College in Sulaimani City

Abstract
First aid refers to the immediate care provided to an individual who is ill or injured. Its primary objectives are to preserve and safeguard life, prevent the worsening of the condition or further injury, and facilitate the recovery process. The study conducted to assess the student’s knowledge regarding First aid in the College of Nursing -Sulaimani University. A quantitative design, cross-sectional-descriptive study (non-probability purposive sample) of 90 students. The data collected by using a checklist. The outcomes demonstrated that (74.4%) of the students were female in both stages (1 and 4). The age of all students in 1st stage were <21 years, (80.9%) of 4th stage were between 21-22 years, only (19.1%) of them were > 22 years. (80.9%) of them were single. (93.7%) of them heard the survival emergency survival 122, and the source of knowledge of (68%) of them was regarding on the internet. (59.6%) of them has no any medical staff in their families. (65.1%) of first stage did not participate in training courses regarding first aid compared to (42.6%) of fourth stage. The results showed that fourth stage had much knowledge regarding first aid compared to first stage students because they achieved many correct answers than first class regarding subtitles of Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, seizure, burn, fracture and chocking. So, the study recommended that the first stage students need to participate in seminars, workshops, poster distribution, booklets, using internet
