Determination of heavy metal levels in blood serum and urine of lung cancer patients at Babylon Cancer Center, Iraq

Abstract
Lung cancer development may potentially be impacted by certain trace element concentrations. The purpose of this study was to detect certain trace elements in the serum and urine of lung cancer patients from Iraq. A total of 89 patients were involved in this study: 25 individuals who were healthy and 64 individuals who had lung cancer. A spectrophotometer for atomic absorption was used to measure the levels of zinc and cadmium. Through independent T, the data was examined using SPSS 23. Lung cancer patients and healthy people did not significantly differ in their serum amounts of Cd or Zn (p ≥0.05); nevertheless, there was a significant difference in urine between the two groups (p ≥0.05). Lung cancer patients showed higher amounts of zinc and cadmium in their urine and lower levels in their serum compared to healthy volunteers.
